How Digg Affected Traffic, Alexa Rank And Other Metrics

On September 13 “Current Trends In Web Design” articleВ got elected ontoВ Digg home page. How did it affect web traffic, Alexa ranking and other indicators of popularity? Well, here is what happened.

Traffic Summary

Before Digg Effect it was about 30-40 visitors a day in September with about 60-80 page views. First two days of digg-driven traffic there were more than 27000 unique visitors with a bit more than 40000 page views. Next week traffic was about 1100 visitors a day (average) with 2000-3000 page views a day. Last three-four days traffic is quite stable with about 1000 visitors a day. Rank of ontoinfo.com was 446000+ before. After two-three days of Digg Effect (Alexa has some delay)В the rank got updated very significantly: daily rank has jumped to 1995, weekly - 11000+ and 3-month rank got lifted to 106443. As of now daily rank is 46558 and weekly rank is 30248.

Technorati

Before it was indicating that ontoinfo blog rank was far more than 100000. Now it is 33868 with 105 links from 79В blogs.

The article got bookmarked by 809 other people. It was among the most popular links of the week and it is occupying 32nd position (out of 50) in the list of the most popular links of a month.

Search Engines

Last week there were about 60 visitsВ from search web sites. Not too much, but, before it was 3-4 per month. The most popular search strings: “trends in web design”В (6 visits), “web design trends” (6 visits); allВ other search strings generates 1 or 2 visits. There are almost 1800 referrers (up from 50-60 before).

Dude, you need to present the data better.. simply putting up numbers, although quite impressive, doesnt quite do it anymore these days.

Folks, thanks for advices and feedback, I really appreciate.

I use ev1servers.net as a hosting company; I have there Virtual Private Server (minimum configuration: 10G Disk space, 128M memory, 100G monthly traffic) for $39/mo.

Since I have a few other pet projects, I could not use any shared hosting solutions and, on the other hand, to rent a full server would be overkill. So, VPS seems to work just fine.
